Dear friends, colleagues and well-wishers, Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. We are Angel, Daryl, Joyce, Ian and Mike. We will be taking part in OCBC Cycle Singapore 2013 on 28/04/2013 and aiming to raise money for Dover Park Hospice, a charity serving those near the end of their lives and supporting their loved ones. The funds raised will go towards subsidising the expenses of the terminally ill who cannot afford to pay for their stay at Dover Park Hospice. Dover Park Hospice is one of the beneficiaries of the Business Times’ 39 km Charity Challenge. Whereas Angel, Daryl, Joyce and Ian, newbies in this area, are taking part in this segment of the OCBC Cycle, Mike, our newest member, is doing the extreme and gunning for the 59 km Super Challenge. We welcome him in our efforts to raise awareness and much needed funds. As staff (Angel and Daryl), volunteer (Joyce) and former caregiver (Ian), we have witnessed the pain, suffering and distress that patients and their loved ones experience. We have also experienced the relief and the care that hospice can provide. Mike, who is currently the Assistant Dean of Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, is also not new to hospice care. Hailing from the United Kingdom, Mike is from the home of the modern hospice movement and bring with him a strong tradition of community involvement in care for the less privileged. Due to the rising costs, to continue providing high quality hospice care for those reaching the end of life is becoming increasingly challenging. In addition to having a dedicated team of doctors and nurses who provide a high level of medical care to the terminally ill patients, we also have a retinue of psycho-social and support services staff that provides various new services such integrated home-care, bereavement support, caregiver training and a host of other capabilities, working closely together to support our patients and their families through one of the darkest periods of their lives.
