PIBG SK Dua Sungai, Mukah

I teach in Sekolah Kebangsaan Dua Sungai, a primary school located in the district of Mukah, Sarawak.  This school was built in the year 1955 and to date, it has an enrolment of 210 students and 23 teachers.  Majority of its students hail from two traditional villages situated near the school and they come from very poor homes. Considering its current condition with the lack of infrastructure, the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of this school is trying its utmost best to improve the overall condition to create a better teaching  and learning environment for teachers and students. The PTA is highly dedicated and fully committed in carrying out various programmes that will benefit the children especially in all aspects of their growing up years.  However, the biggest obstacle they face in their desire to improve the school is the constant need to raise funds.  Many important programmes planned  had to be put on hold due to the lack of funding.  Despite the financial constraint, the PTA managed to carry out two programmes recently, namely Program Guru Muda and Teacher Support Group Program Guru Muda was carried out with the aim of helping the under-privileged  children of the school to improve academically.  Due to the location of the school, the poor children do not have access to extra tuition classes which are usually held in town. Moreover tuition fees are not affordable to these poor children.  Under such circumstances, the PTA of this school took the initiative to embark on this  special programme . Under this programme, SPM school leavers and undergraduates on semester breaks collaborate with teachers to conduct  tuition classes on a voluntary basis.  These tuition classes have benefited the children and the school can take pride of its top five academic achievement in the recent UPSR 2014 exam for Mukah district with a total number of 28 primary schools. The Teacher Support Group comprising parents in support of teachers was initiated by the PTA to assist the school on a voluntary basis too. The parents have been of great help to the school, rendering their assistance when they can afford their time and this kind gesture from parents has helped the teachers with several non-teaching tasks.  This sort of cooperation builds rapport and should be given due support as it is in line with Sarana Ibu Bapa, a programme currently being carried out by the Ministry of Education. By doing so, the teachers can focus their time and attention  on their core business of teaching and making sure students learn. For many activities and programmes to be carried out smoothly, a multi-purpose room or a mini hall is much needed and will definitely facilitate planning and the implementation of various programmes.  With the help of parents, teachers  and villagers, a multi-purpose room or mini hall has made its way into this rural primary school.  However, due to the lack of funds, this multi-purpose room has yet to be fully completed. As such, we would like to appeal to the generosity  and kindness of the general public to assist us with our plight.  Any form of assistance or donation towards equipping this multi-purpose room or mini hall for Sekolah Kebangsaan Dua Sungai, Mukah, is much appreciated. Thank you.
