Dear friends, I am taking up the FUNdraising challenge with World Vision Malaysia in an effort to raise funds for children with limited access to clean water and proper sanitation facilities in Baganuur, Mongolia. This leads to health problems like diarrhoea, infectious diseases and Hepatitis A, which in rural communities, can be fatal. As part of our team ‘Malaysians for Mongolians’ I am committing to raise RM10,000 to put an end to Water, Sanitation and Health issues. I look forward to your support in helping me raise RM10,000 towards Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Children in Baganuur, Mongolia.
My Story
On 1 May 2015, a group of us embarked on The Road Less Traveled. We joined World Vision Malaysia on a sponsors' visit to Mongolia, specifically to a district called Baganuur. We visited a ger kindergarten which does not have proper toilet facilities. Children have to walk out of the ger to use the pit latrine. There have been cases of children falling into the pit. During winter, the temperature can drop to -40°C and this is too cold for the children to go to the latrine. This is reflective of the general situation amongst the kindergartens and schools in Baganuur.
As a team, we are committing to raise RM150,000. The funds will directly benefit more than 2,600 children and families in 5 kindergartens and 4 secondary schools through the following initiatives:-
- Installation of at least 3 water storage tanks
- Construction of 16 bio toilet units (with bio decomposers) and 1 public bath house / toilet
- Distribution of handouts on hygiene and sanitation practices
- Building 16 washing facilities
- Sanitation and hygiene campaign training sessions
Warm regards.
