Nor Apidah is 19 years old and she is currently pursuing a diploma degree in Zakat and Waqf Management at the Institute of Baitulmal Professional (IPB). Apidah is from a poor socioeconomic background. Her parents divorced in 2012. Apidah and her 7 siblings live with their single mother. Apidah’s father is remarried and lives in Sabah. Apidah’s mother supports the family by working as a cleaner with a salary of RM 900 per month. Her mother also does some small business, which is trading accessories and bags at Chow Kit at the night markets. This business income is not fixed every month because it depends on the sale of its goods. Apidah’s mother’s business has been performing poorly because of the lack of buyers unlike before. Sales are down each day. Apidah's father works as a laborer and each month just hands over RM150 to Apidah's mum for the expenses of all the children. Apidah's mother also suffer from clogged heart problems that need treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

Apidah is now in her second semester. She had applied for a loan from the National Higher Education Corporation (PTPTN) during the first semester but due to incomplete application, it was rejected. Now she has once again applied for PTPTN and the application is still in process. If the PTPTN loan application is approved, the loan will only cover half the college fees. The total fees is RM 21 000 and the loan from PTPTN is RM 10,500 only.

Apidah’s aspiration is to help her family out of poverty and she is determined to continue her studies even as she faces multiple financial constraints. Apidah and her family are willing to tighten their belts further to buy books and study needs. Apidah’s mother has also borrowed to pay the registration fee and the her hostel fee. We believe in the power of many and hope that we can all help Apidah to continue pursuing her goals and to see her graduate.

The total funds that we would like to raise is to help pay the other half of Apidah’s tuition fee of RM10,500.
