Project Overview: The Mangrove Mavericks project is a collaborative initiative led by eight dedicated MBA students from the Graduate School of Business at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM-GSB). Our mission is to address the critical environmental challenges faced by mangrove ecosystems in Malaysia. Mangroves play a vital role in coastal protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate change mitigation, yet they are under severe threat from land use changes, coastal development, and climate change.
Our Initiative: Recognizing the urgency of protecting these vital ecosystems, our team has developed a real-time monitoring system for mangroves at the Kuala Selangor Nature Park (KSNP). This innovative system measures key environmental parameters such as pH, salinity, nutrient levels (NPK), water quality, and the growth characteristics of mangrove saplings. By providing real-time data, the system will enable researchers and conservationists to make informed decisions to enhance mangrove survival rates and promote long-term sustainability.
Support and Collaboration: Our project has received the approval and support of the Office of Student Affairs, UKM (HEP-UKM; iSTAR Approval on 8th June 2024), and involves collaboration with the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UNSDSN) Asia Headquarters, as well as experts from UKM and UTEM. The Go-Live Event for this project is scheduled for 17th August 2024, with project completion expected in October 2024. We also have the support of the Malaysia Nature Society, which manages the Kuala Selangor Nature Park, ensuring exclusive collaboration with them.
Fundraising Goal: To ensure the success of this impactful initiative, we seek to raise RM50,000.00. The funds will be used for the development, installation, and maintenance of the monitoring system, as well as the Go-Live Event and other essential project activities. Your support will be instrumental in advancing our efforts to conserve mangrove ecosystems and contribute to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Malaysia.
Target Amount: RM50,000.00
Breakdown of Fund Usage:
Join Us: We invite you to join us in our mission to protect and sustain the mangrove ecosystems. Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant impact. Together, we can create a sustainable future for our mangroves and the communities that depend on them.
Well done guys... 🤩
