My Story

Our adventure in Kuala Lumpur started almost 2 years ago. I started working as a volunteer at the UNHCR and through my work I got involved with refugees and Ideas Academy. I recently joined the Ideas Academy team as a project manager and started this crowdfunding campaign. 

Ideas Academy is a secondary learning centre for refugees in Malaysia and plays a really important role in the lives of young refugee students, by providing high quality education and creating a save environment for them to learn and explore their talents. 

During my time here I learned a lot about refugees in Malaysia, their situation and the difficulties they are facing every day. Apart from most other countries, refugees in Malaysia don't have a legal status and because of this they don’t have the basic right on education, healthcare and work.

Ideas Academy is one of the few schools in Kuala Lumpur that provides secondary education for refugees and at the moment we are fully depending on donations. Ideas Academy has over 160 students at the moment and a growing waiting list. With your support we hope that the Academy will be able to grow to approximately 300 students by 2020. 

To keep our doors open and to help more students we need your help! Any donation, big or small, makes a difference.

A donation of:

100 RM / 20 euro can provide extra educational material for 1 student

500 RM / 100 euro gives us the chance to upgrade the students facilities

1000 RM / 200 euro will help us to grow our team of qualified teachers

5000 RM / 1000 euro will help us to create new classrooms
