Climbing Mount Kinabalu for a cause entails an enriching experience. The climb is definitely a challenge to the mind, physics and emotion. “KLIMB for KANCER”, is coined with ‘K’ owing to the location of Mount Kinabalu, which is located in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, East Malaysia. 

Mount Kinabalu is a prominent mountain in the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia, stands majestically at 4,095 meters above sea level. This charity climb invites trekking enthusiasts, with a reasonably good level of fitness to brave the altitude and raise funds for poor cancer patients. The climb engages ones good interest in outdoor activities together with fulfilling ones social obligation in helping those in need. 

Klimb for Kancer is scheduled for the 21st – 24th of September, 2013. 

The climbers who comprise of cancer survivors, volunteers and staff are covering all the cost related to the climb at their own expense. All donations received goes directly to the charity in saving the lives of cancer patients. A team of 32 climbers targets to raise RM64000 (USD21210), with each climber raising RM2000 each. 

Klimb for Kancer certainly will be an elevating experience, enabling one to share about their fair moments of challenge, achievement and empowerment, as well as moments of exhaustion, anguish and doubt.

A Team Work 

Get a small team, plan for an interesting day-out, go jungle trekking to the nearest hill (e.g. Maxwell Hill, Taiping; Frasers’s Hill, Pahang; Gunung Gap Gunung Ulu Semangkok, Kuala Kubu Bahru Selangor, Gasing Hill, Petaling Jaya; Broga Hill, Seminyeh; etc). 

Turn it into a cancer awareness & fundraising activity, let say the height of Maxwell Hill, Taiping is 1,270 meters / 4,100 feet. You may pledge to raise RM1,270 or RM4,100 as referred to the height. Get your friends to donate 10 meters of the trek = RM9.99. You need 127 people/friends to pledge to achieve your target. By doing so, imagine, you have spoken to more than 127 people about cancer and your desire to help those afflicted with cancer. 

This type of fundraising activity can be exciting, be it for college or university students, working colleagues or just about any individual. An outdoor time well spent with friends and families can put a smile on the face of a patient lying on bed, sick in a hospital. 

You may not necessarily have to get a group or team to do it. You may want to do it by yourself. Why not? Gear up and put your best foot forward in helping those in need. 

If a Hill sounds too far, or you simply do not have much time to spare, fret not, you may even climb the steps for cancer. Every step counts, put a value of RM1 for each step, 100 steps equates to RM100; you could climb Batu Caves for this particular activity. Now that you may have got the grasp of it, have fun!
