Re-CYCLE, Give CYCLE is a project to collect, repair and restore used bicycles, and give these bicycles to children and adults surviving cancer.
Giving the restored bicycles to cancer survivors, many of whom do not have the means to afford similar or better modes of transports, would bring about meaningful difference to their lives.
Village Bicycle Workshop (VBW), our partner in this project, will conduct a supervised workshop to teach volunteers how to restore, repair and even build bicycles.
We hope to raise RM10,000 to fund this project.
RM6,000 will go into buying:
1. Workstation tools (10 sets) i.e. wrench set, adjustable wrench, hex keys, plier & cutter, lubricant, worktool containers.
2. Workshop apparels (for volunteers) i.e. aprons, cloth gloves, nitrile rubber gloves, oil cloth rags.
3. Cleaning set (3 sets) i.e. degreaser, mineral spirits, wire brushes, chain cleaner tool, sponge & washing detergents, washing containers.
20 volunteers guided by 15 volunteer mechanics will restore 10 bicycles.
The volunteers’ hands-on approach to bike restoration and repair is a key component of this project to foster a greater sense of ownership to the cause.
It also adds greater meaning and value to the time, effort, energy and commitment volunteers put in to help provide affordable transportation to those in need.
