DISASTER HITS MALAYSIAN SHORES

The worst floods in 30 years have affected several states, especially the northern and eastern regions, displacing over 200,000 people.

World Vision Malaysia is partnering with a Malaysian relief organisation CREST (Crisis Relief Services and Training) to provide emergency aid to the affected communities. We are now responding in the most affected areas, including Tumpat, Kuala Krai, Kuala Betis, Tanah Merah and Rantau Panjang in Kelantan.

The initial stage in our response will focus on life-saving essentials to meet the immediate needs of the people, especially children, who are the most vulnerable during disasters. 

World Vision Malaysia carried out distributions in:
- Kuala Krai on 6 & 7 Jan;
- Tumpat on 7 Jan;
- Tanah Merah and Rantau Panjang on 8 Jan;
- Gua Musang on 9 - 12 Jan

The distribution of hygiene kits, drinking water, food kits, cooking utensils and back-to-school kits benefitted a total of 1275 families (600 families in Kuala Krai; 188 families in Tumpat; 100 families in Tanah Merah; 100 families in Rantau Panjang and 287 families in Gua Musang).

Contents in the kits:
- food kits (e.g. biscuits and canned food)
- drinking water
- hygiene kits (soap, sanitary pads, towel, laundry soap, toothpaste & toothbrush)
- cooking utensils
- back-to-school kits (a school bag, a stationery set, 12 colour pencils, an art block and a notepad)
- cleaning kits

World Vision Malaysia will continue to help the most affected communities in Kelantan in their recovery and rebuilding from the floods until further notice.
