Daan Briët is a nine-year-old student living in Kuala Lumpur who has generously offered to help WWF-Malaysia raise funds for our Malayan tiger conservation efforts, as part of his school community service project. About Malayan Tigers

Back in the 1950s, Malaysia was thought to have 3,000 wild tigers. Now less than 200 remain; primarily due to widespread poaching.

Sadly, the Malayan tiger is now officially listed as Critically Endangered under the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. This means that the Malayan tiger is on the brink of extinction.

As an apex predator, Malayan tigers keep populations of prey species in check, which in turn maintains the balance in the forest ecosystem. We all need forests for fresh water, clean air and to regulate the climate to limit extreme weather patterns, such as droughts and floods.

Saving tigers means saving forests – and ourselves.

We urgently need your support to help our frontliners in the field. WWF-Malaysia conducts intensive patrolling in Belum-Temengor and monitors poaching hotspots, whilst channeling relevant information to enforcement agencies. This has enabled:
• More ground to be patrolled.
• More threats to be uncovered.
• More snares to be removed.
• More arrests of poachers.

Your important donations will enable WWF-Malaysia to:
• Support wages for field assistants to conduct patrolling and camera-trapping.
• Provide daily rations for patrolling work.
• Purchase camping equipment to carry out field surveys.
• Cover logistics and transport costs.
• Support critical awareness and communications initiatives conducted with the community and civil society.

WWF-Malaysia is supporting the Malaysian Government to establish long-term, sustainable solutions to protect Malaysia’s tigers and secure a future for all the biodiversity in the Belum-Temengor Forest Complex.
