25% of Cambodian children in Grade 3 have very poor literacy skills. This is because very few get the opportunity to attend a preschool or Kindergarten.

Critical social and mental development occurs between 3 and 6 years of age. Early Childhood Education (ECE) programs are essential to help children reach their potential in academic and other areas of their wellbeing.

Green Umbrella is setting up a holistic and comprehensive ECE program that is culturally appropriate for children in rural Cambodia. Our aim is that children entering Grade 1 in the local public school system will be better prepared for early literacy skills, giving them a head start to future learning. This will have a positive impact on the number of children who reach middle and upper levels at secondary school.

We will extend from two to eight kindergarten classes in January 2022, with a total of 128 students in Early Childhood Education. Not only will all these young children benefit from spending 2 years with us in a nurturing and safe environment. Their parents, families, and the wider community will also be closely connected to the Green Umbrella School.

We wish to raise funds for learning materials and other resources for teachers and students for 2022. The cost is estimated at USD$20k.
