About Event

Fugee School was founded in 2009, on the simple premise that ALL CHILDREN not matter who they are or where they come from should be able to attend school. If we look at the world, we see many conflicts, wars and climate change is causing more people to become refugees, and while the adults bear a lot of trauma, the children often suffer in silence.

Here in Malaysia, Fugee.Org has worked with the refugee community for over 10 years. We run Fugee School, which has educated over 500 children ages 4 to 20. The students come from over 7 countries, such as Syria, Palestine, Somalia, Yemen, Pakistan & Myanmar. As Malaysia doesn't have clear policies on refugees protection and rights, refugees cannot attend public schools. So places like Fugee School is all they have when it comes to getting an education in a safe environment. Today, we provide 200 students with a holistic education, focusing on academic and life skills programmes and hands-on experiences. We also provide jobs to 6 refugee teachers.

The past year has been extremely hard on many of us, especially marginalised communities, Fugee School has not been spared from the effects of Covid-19. Many families lost their sources of income and were unable to pay school fees. And as an organisation, we haven't been able to secure funds from donors and partners. In short, we are surviving month to month and struggling to take care of the needs of our students and families and keep our doors open.

Our urgent appeal is to raise a total of USD 25,000 to cover the schools overheads, pay teachers salaries and cover educational resources for approximately 4 months.

It costs approximately:

- USD 30/ month to educate 1 student at Fugee School

- USD 6000/ month to cover all overheads including students education at Fugee School

Thank you for making a difference and investing the the future of 200 children!
