IDEAS Autism Centre (IAC)
, is an early intervention initiative that offers a full-day service of quality care, therapy and education for autistic children between 3 and 9 years old that come from underprivileged families (bottom 40%). Our ultimate aim is to support the students to get into the mainstream primary schools by the age of 9 years old.

In Malaysia, affordable care and therapy for autistic children is limited. While there are over 28 primary schools providing special education, there is still a shortage of affordable early intervention services that are available for low-income families. Once a child is diagnosed with autism, it is common for at least one of the parents to have to stop working in order to provide care for the child. Even if they can afford care and therapy, most centres provide care for only half a day making it difficult for both parents to remain employed.

Thus, parents are subjected to a vicious downward spiral as they pay a high cost for care. Most often, one parent would need to quit work to ensure their child is looked after throughout the day, leading to a reduction in their household income. Despite this, the child’s needs remain unmet.Did you know that approximately 9,000 children in Malaysia are born with autism every year? But all NGO’s in Malaysia today can cater to 1,500 children only. Many autistic children are not receiving the care and therapy that they very much need as the cost of treatment is simply too high for many, especially for those from underprivileged backgrounds.

In addition to offering education to autistic children, the IAC organises activities with parents. This is important to ensure parents are continually involved in the development and learning of
their own children. For this purpose, we conduct regular meetings between parents and teachers, hold training sessions and activities for parents. We also encourage family participation in student outings whenever possible.

Your donation will also help to bring about long-term change, funding education and therapy sessions, as well as parent and teacher trainings for underprivileged families.

Your support and that of other donors is vital, allowing us to continue the life changing work that we do.

Thank you in anticipation for your donation.

Inshallah we can all make a difference.
