Hi everyone,
My name is Karen Lee and I am a RYT200 Yoga Teacher.
My passion is in Yoga and I have always been interested in children causes and I thought one day, “why not combine both?”. In conjunction with Malaysia’s first ever giving celebration, MYGiving (
www.mygiving.asia), I am hosting a Charity Yoga Flow where 100% of proceeds and donations will go to Malaysia Lotus Charity Care Centre Association.
Just to give you a bit of background, Malaysia Lotus Charity Care Centre Association is multi-ethics home based in Semenyih, Selangor. The home currently shelters 26 abandoned children (their oldest is currently 16 years old) and 12 elderly. The elderly are mostly abandoned at hospitals by their family members and brought into the homes, hence most of them are not able to care for themselves. Malaysia Lotus Charity Care Centre Association has been operating for 14 years and they support these children and elderly by providing shelter, food, clothes, education and care.
The home has been through a lot. Back in 2017, the home was burnt to the ground. Shortly after, the late founder Dr. R. Thomas Manoharan passed away, leaving his wife Sarah Thomas to run the home. Now, all 26 children live in a simple rental room with 3 bedrooms.
Fortunately, the home had help. Funds were raised by mother of two, Diani, to help build a new home for the children. Construction is ongoing and the new building will be ready by May 2020. That said, there are still so much the home and children need, like electricity, furniture, school transportation etc. and they have so little financially.
Their total monthly expenses is about RM33,400 (and broken down as follows):
Food (for 25 elderly and 26 children) RM9,000
Rental of 2 houses RM4,000
Staff (9 caretakers) RM11,200
Utilities (water, electricity, phone) RM1,100
Transportation and Fuel RM3,700
Education expenses RM1,200
Other necessities RM3,200
The aim of this charity event is to raise funds and items for this home, and also to build awareness and cultivate the act of giving in our community to those who really need our help. These homes needs our constant support to be able to care for those who needs them most.
Therefore, I will be conducting an Inside Flow yoga class with a special Sound Bath to shavasana to raise funds!
