What: Mind Over Mountains
Mind over Mountains (https://www.mind-over-mountains.com/) is a 4 day trekking challenge with Barclays employees in the Himalayas to raise funds and awareness for mental health. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Barclays colleagues from Hong Kong, India, Japan and Singapore to come together in Northern India to trek through the greatest mountain range in the world, the Himalayas, on a mission to end the stigma around mental health. Barclays colleagues from Hong Kong will set off on the challenge from April 8-14 and help address the role we all play in the everyday to help transform the lives of people affected by mental health problems, all whilst raising funds and awareness for Mind HK (www.mind.org.hk), a local mental health charity in Hong Kong.
Why: Mental Health
Mental health problems are among the leading causes of disabilities around the world, with depression being the third. 1 in 5 adults experience mental health problems, accounting for 15% of the total global burden of disease and the vast majority of these individuals do not receive the care that we know can transform their lives. Up to 1.7 million people in Hong Kong experience a mental health problem, yet only 1/4 seek help.
Who: Mind HK
Mind Hong Kong (Mind HK), a mental health initiative out of the Patient Care Foundation, seeks to ensure everyone in Hong Kong living with a mental health problem has the recognition, support and respect they need to make the best recovery possible. Through collaborations, innovation, and training, it facilitates the work of all those involved in improving mental health in Hong Kong. More information on the charity can be found at www.mind.org.hk.
