Former security guard at the Hong Kong Museum of History, Grandma Lee lives in Ping Shek Estate in Kwun Tong. Flakes of paint had been dropping from the ceilings in her kitchen, bathroom and living room for years, creating dirt and dust in her humble home. Then a team of Habitat for Humanity’s ‘Project Home Works’ volunteers paid her a visit, along with a skilled contractor, to take on the challenge of renovating her home. Habitat believes that a decent home provides the foundation to build a future. No matter who we are or where we come from, we all deserve to have a decent life.
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort. What started as a housing organisation has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 70 countries. Habitat works locally in Hong Kong, in mainland China and across the Asia-Pacific region, to help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves.
