My name is Corina and I and an end stage renal failure patient. I have been on dialysis since April 2012. After 7 years on dialysis, my vascular access failed due to clotting and blockage in the enlarged veins. This is called AVF Thrombosis. I have consulted with several surgeons and the the options for vein access is limited now. They had to put in a catheter in my chest that is tied to my skin and channel a tube into my central vein. The risk for blockage using this method is high, so it is not conducive for long term use because if the central vein is affected, it will block off access to other veins in other parts of the body. Maybe by God's grace and direction, I was led to a vascular surgeon who used to perform many kidney transplants overseas and then in Malaysia, and while he honestly told me they make less money recommending transplants, the patient's quality of life is dramatically improved and encouraged me to look into it seriously because time for me is running out. With the complications of vein access and the necessity to access a tube into my central vein, there is growing concern that further complications will arise. The normal procedure to wait for a transplant, and wait for the test for a transplant is a time consuming one and many things can happen in the duration of years that it usually takes for this to fall into place, if it falls into place at all. It is not ideal to wait for this to happen, as time is no longer on my side. Owing to the number of limited years accorded to the survival rate of dialysis patients, along with the complications arising from vein access, basically, we are running out of time and options. The alternative would be to face the possibility of not having any solutions with a very low survival rate.
The option to get a transplant going in the next 6-12 months can be achieved if we have the funds to facilitate it. The donor willl be my father who although in his 60's is thus far in good medical health. This is my only hope and will give me some added years and an improved quality of life without the complications that end stage renal failure and dialysis brings, which I have been encountering for the last 7 years, waiting and watching my time running out.
I have been struggling to pay for all my medical needs, with the ever changing conditions, medications and physical instabilities, it has been an uphill climb. Some faithful friends and concerned strangers have reached out to help me these past years, and I am so grateful that because of their contributions, I have been able to get by all the various hurdles and tragedies that have taken place one after the other.
I don't expect it will be easy, but I hope that people will want to contribute to this life saving mission that will give me a new lease on life, and extend my life expectancy by several years if not more. As I only have one possible donor, and one chance to make this work, in a short period of time, and in the most efficient way possible, the bestand fastest option requires a total amounting to RM150,000-200,000 for both the donor and the recipient together. I may or may not be able to raise such a big amount, but I have to try and hope that there is a chance that people believe that my life is worth saving and worth contributing to.
