Hi everyone! Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read about my first ever fundraising campaign - ‘Smiles that Stick’. I've worked really hard to put this together and would be so grateful if you could support me in my endeavors of making a difference within our local community.  

My name is Julia and I'm an undergraduate student studying Economics and Global Sustainable Development. During the COVID-19 lockdown period which began in April last year, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and start a small sticker business, selling novelty stickers that I designed myself. In light of the recent white flag/ #benderaputih movement, I have decided to put together a fundraiser, whereby donors will receive a sticker sheet bundle from my shop as a token of appreciation for funding this charity campaign. I've always hoped for the opportunity to make a positive impact within my local community through my art and I believe that this opportunity has finally arrived.

The charity I have chosen to fundraise for is The Lost Food Project. It is a non-profit organization that rescues lost food and redirects them to those in greatest need. As a sustainable development student, the values and mission of this organization resonated with my own. TLFP is ambitiously working to tackle both food poverty and environmental sustainability in Malaysia, all whilst reducing costs for both industry and government.

Supermarkets and manufacturers needlessly send good food to landfills while charities are spending limited funds to buy food or seek food donations to feed the underprivileged. In Malaysia, around 3000 tonnes of edible food is wasted each day. According to TLFP, this is sufficient to feed 10 million people every day. Hence, no one in Malaysia should be placed in a position of hunger.

Why you should help

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and prolonged lockdown measures, many Malaysians continue to struggle with survival due to the limitation of food sourcing. By supporting this fundraiser, you will be helping to fund TLFP's COVID-19 Hunger Relief campaign and their operations during this unprecedented time to ensure that they will be able to continue reaching those most in need.

What you will gain

Many of us are extremely fortunate. We don’t even think twice about whether we would be able to afford to have our next meal or not. But according to TLFP, in Malaysia, many are still fighting hunger. More than 1 in 10 children have less than 3 meals a day amongst Malaysia’s urban poor in low-cost flats. Can you imagine the impact COVID-19 would have on these same children? 

No one is too small to make a difference; every little bit helps and counts to ensure an individual or a vulnerable community doesn't go to bed hungry. A single donation of RM10 can help to provide 50 meals to families in greatest need, with RM50 capable of providing 250 meals!
