My Story
Personally, I feel that despite Singapore being a developed nation, mental health and associated illnesses still seem to be a taboo subject. There is a misconception that seeking help for mental health is a show of weakness and there seems to be a general lack of understanding about mental illnesses/disorders. I have seen people shun patients with mental disorders due to discrimination, lack of understanding of the ailment, fear, or a combination of everything.
Hopefully, there can be increased coverage and education to raise awareness and understanding about mental health such that it will no longer be a stigma. This will allow people suffering from mental illness to feel comfortable seeking help earlier and have a better chance at getting better.
