I had never expected she will be down with breast cancer 10 years ago...hers was hereditary. She found me at NL Building and took me to the toilet and there she took off her blouse. I was surprised and reminded her to stay and think positive that time though i know she may be sad but will not reveal her true feelings or inner feelings to people. Cancer was indeed scary to both of us. Fyi, I am a chronic patient myself too. I did tell her that i might die earlier than her as doctors had already detected a slight cirrhosis in my Liver. I didn't give up any hope, ...instead i start my strict diet regime and exercise and did cross training through swimming, runnning and gym too.I even read inspirational books, thinking positively and started all the positive things around me through volunteering.  Just in mid April this year , i received a FB msg from her classmate that she passed away. I was shocked and could not accept her sudden death. The following two days were my commitment to rugby sports volunteering. I was determined that i had to tell the truth to my volunteer in charge that i had to take time off to attend the wake in Punggol. I even messaged my school teacher that i had to send her off on her last journey which was a working Monday. Most of her classmates were unable to make it as they were working. When i took a last glance at her from coffin, her obituary photo and blue clear skies i knew she had reported to heaven. She will never come back again. So this year, i decide to run in Race Against Cancer 2016 as a charity athlete in memory of her

Thanks for visiting my personal fundraising page. Being struck by cancer is a difficult journey both emotionally and financially not just for the patient, but also for those close to the sufferer, and unfortunately, the ending does not always end on a happy note. I never fully realized or understood the impact cancer had on someone or a family until your close ones were diagnosed. They fought bravely and fiercely in their battle against the disease. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (2 Tim 4:7). Having been through the cancer journey myself and being blessed with support and encouragements from family and friends, I now want to play my part to race cancer awareness and channeling my passion for running towards doing good. No longer is it for personal fulfillment, gleaming medals, but to improve the lives of those who are in the fight against cancer. This world becomes a better place when we all can share our blessings with those who need it more. The proceeds of your support are immediately sent directly to Singapore Cancer Society. Monies raised under the Charity Athlete Programme will contribute to the Society’s programmes which include subsidizing cancer treatment for needy cancer patients, providing financial and welfare assistance to needy cancer patients, funding rehabilitative and home hospice care services as well as funding cancer screening and public education programmes - See more at: https://www.simplygiving.com/Event/SCSCharityAthlete#sthash.ZDL8zuuC.dpufA $20 donation provides 3 days of free transportation for one beneficiary to and from the hospital for chemotherapy or radiotherapy.A $50 donation provides a colorectal cancer survivor with 2 weeks of ostomy bags, which need to be replaced every 2 to 3 days.A $100 provides a patient with 1 month’s supply of adult diapers.A $200 provides a patient receiving hospice care with one month’s supply of milk. How small amount your donation will be, will go a long way, every dollar counts. Every dollar raised gives our cancer patients strength and hope to keep fighting against cancer and a hope for tomorrow.

My dad is a cancer survivor.  He was diagnosed with liver cancer in one of the annual check-up.  Luckily it was at its early stage and the cancer was removed with radio frequency technology.  But it relapsed couple of times in the last ten years.  Fortunately they were all detected and was removed in time.  Till now he is still follow up yearly to make sure the condition is under control.  I am very glad and appreciative that with the latest development in cancer research my father is able to survive through this ordeal.  I would like this search for the cure for cancer to carry on and hope that more people will benefit from this effort too.

In 2013, I ran the Meadows Half Marathon in Edinburgh to raise money for Cancer Research UK, and I'm so thrilled to be back home in Singapore this summer to run the Race Against Cancer 2015 with my Dad to help raise money for the Singapore Cancer Society. I never fully realised or understood the impact cancer had on someone or a family until 2 very special people close to me were diagnosed. They fought bravely and fiercely in their battle against the disease, and I will be running this race to celebrate their fighting spirit, courage and love. By raising money for this fantastic cause, I hope to continue to spread this spirit by inspiring and encouraging others in their battle against cancer. Every cent will go to the Society, and will help provide free hospice home care for terminally-ill cancer patients, free rehabilitation support, cancer screening and more. I would be so grateful for any amount, as even a little bit can go such a long way! In return, I will not only send a lot of love your way, but also make good on my promise to run an amazing race! (Even if Dad has to drag my butt all the way to the finish line!) Thank you and best wishes, Lian Kimxoxo

Mad gives God all the glory for her success. Words from Mad; By The Grace of God, my life has been such an amazing one! From a sedentary life made unhealthy and overweight, to an active aerobic attendee, to a passionate aerobic instructor, to a competitive female competitor on stage, to a victim who suffered extreme Binge eating disorder, to a stronger survivor over depression, to a fitness ambassador and now a missionary servant, I just cannot thank God enough for what He had done in my life! Today i am humbled and privilege to be able to make use of this divine gift in fitness to impact and help change lives. My one and only DESIRE in my life till death i will embrace, is to come with a servant heart and share and spread LOVE! Let the gift in me be used to help anyone regardless of who they are. My life is to walk my words and not just speak from words. And even if my works can only make a difference to a soul, i will never cease to LOVE! I had never done a run more than 42KM in my life, but this year at my age of 37, i am going to do this amazing 100 Miles run in His amazing Grace! If by running for more than 32 hours will bring life and hope to these cancer patients, All i can say is, "I WILL." I hope this willing heart of mine can draw attention to the many generous people around me to contribute in one way or another. The amount I hope to raise for this run is S$100,000. I will run with a glory of not my own, but be all Glory to God alone.  Isaiah 40:31 ►but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Besides what i had mentioned, i also want to encourage all the survivors of those suffering from any form of cancer, to NEVER EVER GIVE UP! Hang on to Hope, miracles happen all the time!!

Singapore Cancer Society (SCS)

I was diagnosed with salivary gland cancer in December 2013 at the age of 35. A series of unrelated incidents led me to the discovery of my condition. In mid-2013, I suffered from 2 months of blocked hearing in my right ear. Subsequently, I had my enlarged adenoid and tonsils removed and had other procedures done to help alleviate my sleep apnea issue. One month after my surgery, I felt an indescribable pain in my right jaw. The pain was so crippling that I could not eat, talk or sleep properly. An X-ray showed that I have an extraordinarily long styloid process bone which had probably been in contact with a raw nerve, thus resulting in the pain. I did a MRI scan subsequently and thus discovered the tumour. Salivary Gland cancer is very rare. The tumour is usually found on the side of the face near the jaw. However, mine was located in the middle of my neck. I went through 2 long and difficult surgeries to remove the tumour which resulted in a 20 cm scar running from the side of my face to right below my chin. After 33 sessions of radiotherapy, I experienced a total loss of my taste sense, developed more than 10 ulcers in my mouth and throat, a drastic reduction in saliva production and a ruptured eardrum. All these side-effects made eating and sleeping very unbearable. I lost 16 kg in 3 months. There was a period of time when I was afraid to fall asleep as I would get woken up with a very dry and painful mouth. At one point, I was so weak that I had difficulties climbing a flight of stairs. I almost fainted on several occasions while carrying my younger daughter. What kept me going on strong is my young family. I have a loving husband who was there for me every step of the way. He would drive me to the hospital and back over 33 mornings before going to work. He took care of me emotionally and physically and even put up with my bad temper when I was suffering from the side-sffects of the treatment. I have 2 young daughters, aged 5 and 9. I can not envision them living a life without me. I know that I have to stay positive and keep my spirits up to fight the battle and keep cancer at bay if I want to be there for my family for many more years to come. I was blessed with many wonderful friends who showered me with lots of love and concern throughout my cancer journey. My dear cousin, Xuemei, was the dietician who was assigned to look after me during my treatment. My friends, Carol, Gin and Patricia, would appear at my home to bring me nutritious home-cooked food or power food that would help with my condition. Many of my friends came over to visit me to show their love and support in one way or another. The outpouring of love from my family and friends really overwhelmed me and made me realise how blessed I am. I used to get easily affected by what people say or do to me. I often get angry and consumed by stress easily but I am a changed person now. Cancer has not just made me a stronger person, emotionally and physically. It has turned me into a better person. My advice to fellow cancer survivors and patients: Staying positive is the best medicine in combating cancer. Living a stress-free and healthy lifestyle will enable us to build a stronger body to fight what's ahead of us.

It's never easy for somebody who is disabled to complete a race. These are things many people are oblivious to because it's a given. Most of us are born healthy and we are able to do things we love, without much hassle. But not many are aware of the struggles and challenges that those disabled athletes are facing. Being injured with ACL and meniscus tear few years back has caused me to not being able to run for a year. It was tough because being the active me, getting confined and not able to run freely, I felt the burden caused to my family and those around me.However that was only temporary. Imagine those that have to go through with it permanently, it’s definitely not easy for them. Our hearts are always with those in need and therefore all my race will be for those in need. I’ve picked up running again and for every race I run, I hope you guys will donate generously to the charity I’ve chose for beneficiaries. Every single cent will go towards the treatment for cancer patients and it’s never too little Nor too much- it’s all from the heart.

Hi there! My name is Gale - an ordinary 31 year old living in Singapore. During last year July, I was diagnosed as having stage 4 breast cancer. Abit of a road bump but, thanks to the tremendous support of family and friends, I am now well. Yayy! Now that I am chemo free for almost 2 months, I can't wait to get back on my feet hence I've signed up for the 5km run in Race Against Cancer as a tribute to all my supporters, celebration... ...& also to give back. The thought of fundraising came during my own course of treatment. Cancer treatment is expensive. Very very expensive. If it is not by God's grace I would have struggled with the medical bills too. And for anyone to make a life and death decision because of financial decision is just heartbreaking.Monies donated to Singapore Cancer Society not only fuel education and research, they are also use to provide financial assistance to needy cancer patients so that everyone can get a fair fighting chance.Q: Why SGD3,500? A: Because that was the approximate amount a chemo combination cost per visit. So lets donate to help at least one patient pay for one chemo session!Q: When can you donate?A: Anytime from now till 2 months after 13-Sept-2015 i.e. Nov? But why wait when you can do something great today? And just in case you don't feel like giving money/ can't afford to give, then please post a shout-out in Facebook, Twitter etc. so that someone, somewhere can be made aware of this opportunity to contribute and make good. Thanks for the support & God bless!P/s: I'll also be participating in 2 more events from now leading to the actual Race Against Cancer day; one for every month of fundraising. So do stay tune for some photos updates!ANNOUNCEMENTS: 26 Jul 2015 - The Shape Run 2015: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!29 Aug 2015 - 5ynergy Run: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!13 Sept 2015 - Race Against Cancer: CANCELLED, please refer to organisers explanation here: http://raceagainstcancer.org.sg/rac-cancellation-faqs/ However as the main reason for this fundraising drive is to serve as a tribute to all my supporters, celebration & giving back, I am still planning to complete another 5km as and when the haze situation has turned better. (Updated: 20-Sept-2015)Finally, thank God for lifting the haze & allowing me to put on the race against cancer t-shirt to run today. Thanks also to those that have supported this fundraising cause. Love u guys so much! (Updated: 26-Sept-2015)Following an invitation from Singapore Cancer Society to continue fundraising I have decided to change the fundraising platform so to provide a more cost effective fundraising. Once again I would like to thank everyone for the support and please continue to give hope and spread love at http://www.giveasia.org/movement/give_hope_and_spread_love (Updated: 2-Oct-2015)Interested to know more about me? Hi guys, Thanks for visiting my personal fundraising page. Through this page, you can make safe and secure donations to sponsor me in my quest to raise money for the Singapore Cancer Society. The proceeds of your support are immediately sent directly to the charity. My page allows you to follow my progress; share it with friends; voice encouragement or even join me and get involved yourself! I will be running several events over the course of the year, kicking off with the Compression Run on the 1st of April, with the aim to raise money for the Singapore Cancer Society. Some of you may have lost a loved one to cancer, or know someone who is suffering from the disease, or someone who has battled it. I personally have lost someone close to my heart through the disease; one of the first few people who believed in me when many did not. My mother herself works at a Cancer Centre, and she has shared with me how difficult a journey it is emotionally and financially not just for the patient, but also for those close to the sufferer, and unfortunately, one that does not always end happily. I have hence chosen to raise money for the Singapore Cancer Society as I find it a worthy cause. Funds raised will be used for things like cancer research, free hospice home care for terminally-ill cancer patients, free rehabilitation support to cancer patients and survivors, free cancer screening and more. You can see more of what the Society does on their website: http://www.singaporecancersociety.org.sg/ I am appealing to each and every one of you to please dig deep and donate, every dollar counts, and a small bit from each one of you will go a long way. Thanks much and cheers, Jade Seah.
