The National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) is a registered, tax exempt charity body established in 1966, under the laws of the Malaysian Societies Act and Registrar of Societies Malaysia, and is the first cancer related NGO in the country that provides education, care and support services for people affected by cancer.

NCSM was founded by Dato’ Dr S.K. Dharmalingam and launched by the YAB Tun Abdul Razak. It is now under the distinguished patronage of the Sultan of Perak. The Society is financed entirely by voluntary contributions from the public.

Being the only charitable organization that provides holistic cancer treatment and support to patients and caregivers, NCSM takes them through their journey in understanding and dealing with cancer in various phases through its five cancer centres – Cancer Treatment Centre, Women’s Cancer Detection Centre, Nuclear Medicine Centre, Resource & Wellness Centre and the Children’s Home of Hope.

The NCSM Cancer Treatment Centre provides radiation treatment to cancer patients. By providing chemotherapy and radiotherapy / brachytherapy treatment under one roof, our patients are able to undergo treatment comfortably and do not have to travel around. Our rates are minimal and highly subsidised – this means more people are able to receive treatment, increasing the chances of cancer survival. We have 2 linear accelerators which means the possibility of machine breakdowns that causes treatment delays or cancellations are reduced.

The NCSM Women’s Cancer Detection Centre is a one stop cancer screening centre for women of all ages. Aware of the rising incidences of breast cancer amongst younger Malaysian women, NCSM established the first Mammography Centre in the country and Southeast Asia region in 1985. It is the 1^st private centre that has a full field digital mammogram in the country. Services include digital mammography, ultrasound, pap smear, bone density tests, and supportive services such as counseling, breast prosthesis fittings and teaching of breast self examination.

The NCSM Nuclear Medicine Centre, opened in 1998 is a centre for patients to undergo nuclear medicine imaging. The centre is also widely recognised as medical specialists from other hospitals refer their patients to this centre for imaging procedures. Imaging assists in providing diagnosis on cancer spread (metastasis) in organs and bones before initiating surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Other scanning services provided include bone scans, renal DTPA, DMSA and thyroid scans.
