The Inland Ocean Festival is a new event organized by Ocean Recovery Alliance, and NGO2 Bambooshoot Foundation on the banks of the Tonle Sap Lake - Cambodia's Inland Ocean. Events will take place on June 17th and 18th in the village and the lakeside, and from 7:00pm at night on the 17th, there will be an amazing Baby Puppet parade, with over 120 lanterns carried by students from the village to the lake, celebrating the rising waters in the annual seasonal change of water levels. This is also part of our Water Rising Festival, which has been going since 2018. The event brings Pride to the Outdoors, and awareness about water protection and less plastic pollution, and includes solutions and alternatives for dumping and burning the plastic.
We also have a matching donation of US$5,000 for this event from one of our Ocean Ambassadors, so we hope you might be able to match some of their contribution.
The Inland Ocean Festival will include traditional dance, music, floating lanterns, cultural activities and competitions, creating a new eco-tourism destination and event to celebrate the beauty of the lake, its protection, and the rising waters. The events are timed for June in order to encourage the cleanup of plastic on the shoreline, and ongoing prevention of plastic waste, so that unhealthy conditions for the environment and for the inhabitants of the water communities are not created. This community engagement, bringing pride to the outdoors, helps improve livelihoods in the fishing, tourism and agriculture sectors, as well as the overall health of the delicate ecosystem.
