Climb Any Mountain has teamed up with a Singapore based social enterprise called Gone Adventurin’. Gone Adventurin’ creates and organizes adventures all around the world, to inspire lives and empower communities through the spirit of adventure.
The event Gone Adventurin’ has created for Climb Any Mountain is called Trekkin’ Tahan. All the participants (there may be up to 15) will travel to Taman Negara, a national forest in Peninsular Malaysia, trek through the rainforest and climb up Mount Tahan to a peak of 2187meters. ‘Tahan’ in Malay means endurance, a quality that will definitely come into play!
The trip starts on March 24th when the participants will meet in a village just outside Taman Negara. The next day, early in the morning, the group will enter the rainforest, which is one of the oldest in the world, and start trekking. For the first two days, the trek moves steadily upwards, covering about 30km and covering an incline of close to 2000m. At the end of the second day of trekking we will be close to the peak; after a second night of wild camping we will wake up early on the third day – around 2 in the morning – and start the final stretch to reach to the peak of Mount Tahan in time to watch the sunrise.
Then the descent begins. By the end of the third day the group will make it almost all the way down the mountain, spend one more night in the jungle and the next day walk the rest of the way out the rainforest and back to civilization! On the morning of the 29th we will all head home.
The group will be camping in the wilderness of the jungle for three nights – there will be porters carrying the tents and preparing food, but everyone has to carry the rest of their belongings and water supply.
The trip is really going to be an absolute adventure. We are going just after the rainy season, so no one will have been in the jungle for about 6 months. Once in the rainforest, we will be completely removed from all civilization, electricity, running water – everything!
