Climb Any Mountain is a not-for-profit, voluntary organization working towards transforming the living conditions for people with learning disabilities and mental illnesses in South Africa. We want to see people with intellectual disabilities and mental illnesses across South Africa have a voice in the decisions which are made about their living situations and their lives. Climb Any Mountain was started by Kim Crossman in August 2011 after Kim and her family set off on a personal journey to searching for a suitable residential care facility in South Africa for Kim’s younger sister, Cara. Cara was born with learning disability, and was diagnosed in more recent years with organic psychosis. The name, Climb Any Mountain, recognizes the metaphorical and physical mountains people with learning disabilities and mental illnesses are challenged with every day.  We appreciate that for some people, even simple or routine tasks can be challenging and that a lot of courage, patience and determination is required to overcome these barriers.
 
Our metaphorical mountain is taking on the challenge of transforming what is available for people both with learning disability and mental illness – and sharing openly as we co-create an inspiring, supported environment for people to fulfill their potential, and live lives they choose and lives they love within their community. In addition, to raise necessary funds to forward our mission, we challenge anyone to climb their own mountain – whatever it may look like.    Whether it be the dare of running a marathon, the impossible task of walking across the country or completing a triathlon, we provide the fundraising platform and tools, plus a knowledgeable team to encourage and give anyone the opportunity to successfully fulfill on tackling their ‘Mountain’.   We want to inspire people to set themselves challenges –physical challenges or otherwise – and to attempt these challenges in aid of Climb Any Mountain.  It achieved UK Registered Charity status in October 2012 (Charity No: 1149311).
